“A Swede is a Swede & a Jew is a Jew”, says Carl Bildt. Analysing the untruthful reply of the Swedish Foreign Minister to WikiLeaks on the Apartheid issue

Second Part of "A Swede is a Swede and a nigger is a nigger"

The day after WikiLeaks twitters told the International forum about Carl Bildt's historical position on apartheid, [1] the Swedish Foreign Minister rushes to explain in the Swedish media that he or his Moderate party has nothing to apologize [2] about Mandela, and that they were "strongly" against apartheid. But he is being untruthful. Bildt also replied to WikiLeaks on the xenophobic quote about the South African nationals, "I did not say that either", affirms Bildt. [3] But neither here is he saying the all truth; for in fact, the Swedish Foreign Minister not only confirmed the flawed statements of Party leader Adelsohn, bust he also added a semantic confusion of his own creation, saying “a Swede is a Swede and a jew is a jew” (?)

moderaternaFig 1. Three consecutive  leaders of the Swedish Moderate Party: Carl Bildt, Fredrik Reinfeldt, and Ulf Adelsohn, which have respectively produced xenophobic-wise statements

As we settled in the First Part of this series, the Moderates – now in the government of Sweden - would not do a generic comparison between "the Swedes and the South Africans"; Instead, the generic comparison referring to the South African nationals done by the party leader Ulf Adelsohn (and confirmed by Carl Bildt) was between "The Swedes and the niggers". [3]

And the xenophobic-wise statements of the moderate leaders do not stop with the Swedish Foreign Minister. The current Prime Minister Fredrik Reindfelt declared 15 May 2012, “It is not accurate to describe Sweden as in a situation of mass unemployment. If you look at ethnic Swedes in middle life, we have very low unemployment" [4] . This, ignoring the ca. 25 per cent of the population being "non-ethnic Swede", and that foreign-born immigrants are known of having  an unemployment rate  70 per cent higher than the Swedish-born. [5]

Answering to a WikiLeaks twitter alluding to "Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt’s position on Mandela”, [6] the Swedish Minister replied in the threat that ensued the WL publication [See thread in image 5, down below]: “And I did not say that either. Just for the record.” [See Bildt's tweet marked 1, in Fig 5].

What is Bildt referring to? What “other thing” contained in the post twitted by WikiLeaks he would have not said?

Mr Bildt, may I ask, have you declared to TT, or have you not, on the 4 of September 1985 (when you were asked by the News Agency whether you would back Ulf Adhelson’s xenophobic formulation comparing "Svensk" and "neger") the following:

“it is absolutely right as said it by Adelsohn. One can also say that a Swede is a Swede and a jew is a jew”

For in that case you are, instead of comparing nationalities or citizenship, confounding national identity with so-called "ethnic" identities, or religious ones.  Would not be more appropriate to call them Israelis? Further, on the one hand Israel is characterized as a multiethnic state, Jews are only a part of the citizens of Israel, and citizenship and religious identities are officially two separated items. On the other hand Jews can be a community forming part of different nations.

Hypothetically, if some MP activist at the Swedish Parliament would propose a trade embargo against Israel (as the one implemented during the Apartheid years, a boycott which was opposed by all at the Moderate party) would you, Minister Bildt, say that "If we boycott their products, the poor Jews become without work"? No, you couldn't because you would be leaving outside your "concern" ca. 23 per cent of the population of Israel.

Were you not referring, Mr Bildt, to the leader of the Moderate Party's statement "en svensk är en svensk och en neger är en neger"? Where you and Adelsohn not referring to the situation around the apartheid in South Africa? In case you do not remember, Aftonbladet does: [7]

.
Bildt swe & jude in AB
"TT reported on the 4 of September 1985 that Carl Bildt, a bid irritated, defended Ulf Adelsohn at a highschool: "Well, it is absolutely right as said it by Adelsohn.”  [8]

.
Mr Bildt: Did you, or did you not signed a proposition for legislation in the Swedish Parliament, together with Ms Margaretha af Ugglas, Moderate MP, asking for the abolition of all decisions regarding a trade boycott against the apartheid regime of South Africa? Mr Bildt, was your signatory-colleague at the Moderate Party, Ms Margaretha af Ugglas, or was she not, a main owner of the Swedish company Sandvik which had enormous investments at South Africa at the time of your legislation proposal?

In case you do not remember, Aftonbladet does, according to the investigative piece of prominent journalist Åsa Linderborg. [9] The journalist and author also recalls that Adolf H Lundin reacted as if he would not understand [or hacerse el sueco, as we say in Spanish], when decent people and honest politicians in Sweden - such as I believe Olof Palme was, and also the social democrats or Left Party followers and Liberals of that time - questioned his gold mining investments in apartheid South Africa. Åsa Linderborg quotes Lundin as saying, "I do not understand the Swedish rage against that beautiful country". [10]

And did the Moderater's Youth organization, of which Mr Carl Bildt has been the chairman, call Nelson Mandela's organization ANC-terrorists? Or did they not?

In conclusion, the WikiLeaks' twitter in response to Bildt  [11] was accurate, both on that WikiLeaks was only stating what Bild position was, and also as summary of my article about Carl Bildt’s and the Moderate's position on the apartheid and Mandela's stance. Further, the fact is also that Bildt CONFIRMED in his own interview with TT on the 4 of September 1985 of being agreed with Adelsohn’s racist formulations.

.
What exactly did the Moderate leader Ulf Adelsohn said, and later confirmed by Carl Bildt?

The first statement was made by the Moderate Party leader during a visit at a Mining site in Bergslagen:

moderaterna och apharteid

"If we boycott their products, the poor niggers become without work"[12]

Thereafter, and because a natural reaction from within a united Swedish front which in fact comprised nearly all political segments of Sweden, some papers highlighted Adelhson public remarks. Then, the TT (Telegrambyrå) News Agency asked Ulf Adelsohn for an interview, and inquired on whether Adelshon would have regretted his statements.  According to the TT cable (TT 850813), Adelsohn said precisely the following in his repeated xenophobic statement, when one more replaced the term “South African workers” for the epithet:

“- No, I regret nothing. A nigger is a nigger and a Swedish is a Swedish” [13]

And he even added during the TT interview:

- “I, of course, stand with what I said. I always mention things by their right names. And that the niggers [or negroes] become unemployed if we are boycotting their products is a fact”. [14]

.
The untruth about the Moderates’ “strongly distance from apartheid”
Carl Bildt explains in the referred Wikileaks-twitter thread, suddenly changing from English to Swedish – which absolutely most of the over two million WikiLeaks followers on Twiter would not understand: “Vi tog kraftfullt avstånd från apartheid i alla dessa former. Men var skeptiska till icke-FN sanktioner”. This means “We took strongly distance from apartheid in all these forms. But we were sceptical to non-UN sanctions”. [See Bildt's twitter No 2, in Fig.5 down below].

To “take drastic distance from apartheid” means in the first place that you of course do not support the apartheid regime with weaponry or economic aid, or trading the goods produced or manufactured under the oppression of an apartheid regime. And that is exactly what Bildt’s right-wing Moderate party is doing nowadays regarding South Arabia, [15] and that is what they did when they tried to stop the embargo of any trade with the apartheid regime of South Africa.

There was – and there is still - a worldwide consensus about the decisive impact that the economic boycott had for the ending of the apartheid regime. And that view also prevailed almost unified in Sweden – the exception being Carl Bildt’s right-wing party the Moderates.  As pointed out above, our current Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt even signed a legislation-proposition at the Swedish Parliament, demanding that all the measurements around the economic boycott against the apartheid regime of South Africa should be abolished! [16] How did the proposition argue at the Swedish Parliament? It stated the following, among other:
"It is not tenable to say that just one form of oppression or repression in a particular country is particularly abhorrent." [17]

.
The untruth about the Moderates’ being “sceptical to non-UN sanctions”
Definitely, there is not such a standard or default position that right-wing moderates maintain about “UN-sanctions” versus “non-UN sanctions”. Concretely on these human rights contexts, declaring of being “sceptical to non-UN sanctions” means not only that they would be doubtful about the juridical legitimacy in implementing non-UN sanctions; in that case, the absolute logical corollary would be that the moderates are convinced that only UN-sanctions are legitimate, and therefore those should be followed by the Swedish government or parliament. But there are several examples in the moderates’ political behaviour that are not consistent with either case.

For instance, Bildt’s moderates did not protest when the Swedish government, in ostensible disrespect for the legitimacy of expressly issued UN sanctions, collaborated willfully in the shameless illegal extradition of political refugees – delivered by Swedish security police to CIA agents at a the Stockholm airport of Bromma, to be transported by CIA to torture in Egypt. In fact, the United Nations sanctioned Sweden for severe violation on the Absolute UN-ban on Torture. [18]

I have previously in these columns analyzed that behaviour of Swedish right-wing governments or coalitions, which denote serious infringements of human-right issues as prescribed in International organizations (like UN). See for instance In the history of Swedish extradition of political prisoners to foreign powers. [19]
.
Finally
Finally, I wish to make clarity about the pseudo discussion on whether “A nigger is a nigger and a Swede is a Swede" should be instead translated as  “A negro is a negro and a Swede is a Swede”. This is just ordinary maneuvering coming from the Concerned Troll. To start with, both uses, "nigger" or "negro", are to be considered racist in the context. Actually, I would not be surprised if this would be proven being also a criminal behaviour, as regarded by the "on-the-paper" Swedish legislation. Secondly, the xenophobic wish to transport the discussion from the issue "stance of the Swedish government's main party on the apartheid and other ethnic-related political situations", to the racist and pseudo semantic discussion on how we should better insult South African nationals; on whether is "more accurate" to insult them as "niggers" or "negros". I will not play along in Professors blogg with the Concerned Troll's trick. And also because of  Trolls would deserve another kind of response.

“A nigger is a nigger and a Swede is a Swede”. Sweden’s main gov party stated its position on Mandela’s struggle against apartheid

cbildt mandelaIn the aftermath of Nelson Mandela’s demise, many opportunistic figures are trying to harvest amid people’s genuine condolence. Among those, the twittering on “deep mourning” by Swedish Foreign-Affairs minister Carl Bildt goes way far. For many of us in Sweden it evokes vivid memories about the active opposition that he and his party The Moderates waged against Mandela’s struggle, and for the prolongation of the apartheid regime.
bildt on apharteid i ABFor instance, the head of the Moderates of that time, Mr Ulf Adelsohn, declared in opposition to the boycott against the South African apartheid regime by 1985, that such boycott from the part of the Swedes would cause the “poor niggers be left without work” [”de stackars negrerna annars skulle stå utan jobb”] [1].  When asked by TT News agency whether he regretted to have used such deleterious terms, and that have caused some irritation, Adelsohn replied, why, “a nigger is a nigger and a Swede is a Swede” [“En neger är en neger och en svensk är en svensk”]. [2]

[According to the Wikipedia article "Nigger" , in Sweden, the use of "nigger" is equivalent of "neger", and traditionally the term has not conveyed the same pejorative use than in the US, and it had possessed the same character than in the ordinary use of neger  ("Det har dock traditionellt inte haft samma starka värdeladdning som i USA, utan också haft karaktären av en vardaglig variant av neger"). According to the Wikipedia article "Neger", "the word neger is not ordinarily used in modern Swedish because it is controversial and can be understood as denigrating and offensive" ("Ordet används vanligtvis inte i modernt språkbruk eftersom det är kontroversiellt och kan uppfattas som nedsättande och kränkande")].

Further, on the 4 of September 1985, when Carl Bildt was asked whether he would back Ulf Adhelson’s above formulation, Bildt replied in the main: “it is absolutely right as said it by Adelsohn” [“det är ju helt riktigt som Adelsohn sagt”]. [3] The caption in the AB picture of Carld Bildt reads: ”Carl Bildt considered that apartheid was not so disgusting (to justify) that South Africa should be boycotted.”

Against the backdrop of the Swedish people's sentiments about the figure of Nelson Mandela, the Swedish National Television (SvT) aired in these days headlines about his dead, calling him repeatedly a series of polite niceties. But in none of the aired news-headlines it was mentioned the absolutely main issue for which Mandela became known worldwide: his struggle against Apartheid. Professors blog provides some historical background of the position of Sweden’s main ruling party on this issue, and revisits Nelson Mandela's stance on some geopolitical issues such as Revolution.

“Make no mistake: Mandela was black and red, but also communist, cultivated, internationalist, African, a free man in a prison built by whites, ruthless with the enemies of the people, in love with the revolution. Do not make an empty, resigned icon of Madiba. He was not Uncle Tom; he was Malcon X, Lumumba a black panther. He is gone with Che, Allende, Chavez, and with Ho Chi Min, with Biko and the millions of anonymous men and women reflected in every single fight against any empire, against any oppressor.”
/ Juan Carlos Monedero [5]

By Marcello Ferrada de Noli

At the old times of Olof Palme, many Swedish organizations, including the youth associations of most political parties, engaged at the end in supporting the struggle against the South African apartheid. Notably, some democratic right-wing juvenile organizations such as Folkpartiet-Liberals, or Centerpartiet, also participated in the Swedish anti-apartheid engagement. But the exception was the Moderates’ Youth organization led by Carl Bildt. In 1968, the same year that Afrikagruppen was founded in Sweden [see below] nucleating the support of diverse student-organizations, Carl Bildt had enter the Moderate party becoming political secretary of the youth organizations Fria Moderata Studentföreningen i Stockholm, and in the consecutive years vice-chairman (1971) and chairman (1973) of the Fria Moderata Studentförbundet .

Super MIR flagAmong the organizations supporting the “Free Mandela” campaign and the anti-apartheid struggle were earliest the small revolutionary-left organizations existing at that time, and refugee groups such as the MIR-GAM (“Group Friends of MIR-Chile”) and many others, followed by traditional centre-left organizations such as the social democratic party and the Left Party. This was certainly before the time of PM Göran Persson and politicians such as Thomas Bodström and Claes Borgström, when the social democratic party became instead a party with a centre-right and pro-US agenda, in the main issues identical with the right-wing moderates. There is no visible difference among the Swedish parties on the geopolitical stance of Sweden, with the exception, at one end of the spectrum, of the nationalist right-wing conservative Sweden Democrats. Even the Left Party (Vänster, former "Communists") voted for Carl Bildt's proposition at the Swedish Parliament to send Swedish military air-force to Libya under the order of US-led NATO command.

In fact, since the opening of the “Case Assange”, the Swedish government have been giving to the world the wretched impression of being ruled from the White House. And there is no shame of this fact from the part of the Swedish economic-military establishment.  Some days ago, when it was known that NSA described Sweden as "leading partner" in the spying endeavours on US behalf (for instance the Swedish NSA (FRA)’s spying on Russian leaders), FRA’s spokesman Fredrik Wallin [image below] declared to the Swedish TV that such description was “very flattering”. [6], [7]

.

However a huge solidarity given by the Swedish people and the social democratic government of Olof Palme, the motor in the grassroots’ supportive struggle in Sweden was the organization Afrikagrupperna. It was constituted 1968 and lived with same impetus even by 1992; [8]

The picture Afrikagrupperna gives about Nelson Mandela's contribution in the liberation struggle is quite different that the one recalled by the Swedish MSM, particularly the state television. The Afrikagrupperna sympathizers, including the ANC  devoted efforts for the support of a variety of liberation struggles in Southern horn of Africa, besides the Republic of South Africa itself. The figure of Nelson Mandela headed our struggle for the liberation of Portuguese colonialist rule in Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, and Moçambique. A number of cadres from MIR participated in these military actions, together with Cuban contingents. Later, the struggle would be extended in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The lame declarations of the Swedish rulers hide the real role of Mandela in the liberation struggles world-wide

Rendfeldt on mandela 1

The right-wing conservative PM Reinfeldt declared in the main TV news Rapport: “It is important that his example should stay as a symbol for reconciliation - right choice for an Africa with many challenges”. But Mandela was in fact a revolutionary who did not spare word in supporting the struggle of the Palestinians, the Cubans, and others. He said for instance, "Israel should withdraw from all the areas which it won from the Arabs in 1967, and in particular Israel should withdraw completely from the Golan Heights, from south Lebanon and from the West Bank.” [9]

Not by accident Nelson Mandela and the ANC were still in 2008 listed in a Terror Watch List at the US. [10]

Andrew Kaczynski collected for Buzz Feed [11] a series of relevant statements by Nelson Mandela, some of theme summarized here:

Lowest performers feeling Happiest at school. Sweden in PISA-2013 paradox

Sweden, the country that takes international prestige by bestowing the Nobel Prize in a variety of subjects – including Medicine, Economy and Literature – is now told about being a nation of striking low school performance in mathematics, science and reading. According to the international rankings in “PISA 2013 Results”, Sweden scored lower than the average of both OECD country-members (n= 34)[1] and among the accumulative list that also includes 31 OECD country-partners (Total N= 65).

However, my analysis of the new published statistics by the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA),[2] indicates that Swedish students score quite high – way above the average of OECD countries – in the percentage of students agreeing with the statement “I feel happy at school”. And I believe that this could be a better indicator of mental health, scholar system’s efficacy aside. Other, very important aspects, which regrettably  are not commented in the context of the PISA 2013 report, is that Sweden has a higher-of-average education-level among the population, and has a high prevalence of students attending the school system regardless social or ethnic issues. Further, however "Reading performance" for Swedish students is reported being lower than OECD average, at the same time the English-language skills among Swedish students is reputed being the highest in the world for non-native English speakers [See ranking at English Proficiency Index].

By Marcello Ferrada de Noli

Sweden

Referring to percentage of students who agreed or strongly agreed with the statement “I feel happy at school”, Sweden positions together with Chile in number 10 among the 34 OECD countries. In the scale ranging 1 to 100, being the OECD average 80 per cent, Chile and Sweden shared an approximate 85 per cent score. Fig 1 shows both OECD and OECD-partner countries above the average.[3]

A success/unhappiness paradox?

Among the OECD member countries, there were 13 countries that scored under the OECD average referring to percentage of students who agreed or strongly agreed with the statement “I feel happy at school”. Remarkably, nearly all of these countries (11 out of 13) showed scores above the average regarding scholar performance (mathematics, reading and science).

Among these thirteen countries we can distinguish three groups, ranked in descending order of the percentage of students agreeing with the statement “I feel happy at school”:

The first group (Luxembourg, Australia, and the United States) had only very slightly difference with the OECD average of “80 per cent”. So tiny, in fact, that it is almost impossible to notice it by looking at Fig 2.

In the second group, ranging from 70 to 79 per cent, we find Germany Italy, Greece, and Slovenia. Neither in this group is the difference  high with respect to the OECD average.

But then we have the third group, comprised by countries scoring in the segment of 60 to 69 per cent visualized in Fig. 1.  These countries are Poland (69 %), Finland (68 %), Estonia (67 %), Slovak Republic (64 %), Czech Republic (63 %), and Korea (61 %).

The remarkable fact is that these six countries scoring the lowest percentage of students agreeing with the statement “I feel happy at school” belong among the cohort of countries with highest scholar performance. And, “on top of it”, Korea, being the country with the highest scoring in scholar performance among all the OECD countries, it is at the same time scoring the lowest percentage of students being happy at school, among all the OECD countries.

Happiest students “performing” lowest

The main results in the PISA investigation are displayed in “Snapshot of performance in mathematics, reading and science”. [4] Here are all the countries ranked, including the OECD-partners nations. The countries scoring lowest in that table are Indonesia and Peru; Albania also in the lowest segment of performers.

Now, rolling down to table “Percentage of students who reported being happy at school”, we find that Indonesia, Albania, and Perú, are the countries scoring with the highest percentages of “being happy at the school” among all the countries (Nr= 65).

‘Unbelievable that Assange has been three years deprived of freedom without any charge’ – Eva Golinger

Professors blogg on RT-Talk with Eva Golinder, 2 of December 2013

"In the UK 's position, it is Washington, the US, that all along have been behind”. Prominent Latin-American lawyer Eva Golinger discussed the situation of the founder of WikiLeaks in a conversation with RT

.

Referring to the stalemate in London of the Swedish case against the WikiLeaks founder, prominent Venezuelan lawyer Eva Golinger said in her RT interview,[1] "Behind the UK 's position, is Washington, the US, that has been there all along .” And she explains:

“The UK and Ecuador had an agreement, as it has been stated by the Ecuadorian Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Mr Rafael Patiño”. “The fact that the UK then changed their position all that suddenly [in spite of the agreement] indicates that who are really managing their policy and strategy is outside the UK Foreign Office.”

“That Julian Assange has been deprived of his liberty for three years, and without any charges filed against him, it is quite odd”, declared the prominent lawyer.

She also warned on a further delay in resolving Julian Assange’s situation in London, is the government if Ecuador would be obliged to take the case to an international court. “You need to understand that these cases are long-term, and can not be resolved quickly”, she said.

Eva Golinger distinguished to different aspects in the “Assange case”. One aspect refers to Julian Assange’s human-rights which has been violated; and the other is the violation against the right of the Ecuadorian Government of giving political asylum. This is a matter protected by international law, said Golinger. That the UK has not permitted the passage of Julian Assange to Ecuador constitutes a “serious violation of international law”.

Update - Formal complaint against lawyer in Assange case, filed at the Swedish Bar Association

Professors blogg received on the 30 November 2013  an updated version of  a letter to the General Secretary of the Swedish Bar Association, Ms. Anne Ramberg, concerning issues in the "Swedish case VS Julian Assange".  The cover letter soliciting the publication of the document  in Professors blogg is signed by Rafik Saley, general secretary African Committee for Sustainable Development - Sweden [See all signatories of the letter to Ms. Anne Ramberg, at the bottom of the missive]. Mr Saley mentions also that he personally delivered this updated version of the letter, ensuing certain formalities that were requested by the SBA. A previous version of this document was published here on the 24 of November -  with my comments added. /MFN.

Dear Anne Ramberg,

We the undersigned are lodging a formal complaint against lawyer Ms. Elisabeth Massi Fritz to the Swedish Bar Association. It concerns her dealings with the press in the Julian Assange case. Elizabeth Massi Fritz represents the complainant Sofia Wilen. Ms. Massi Fritz has made two conflicting statements one to the international press and one to the Swedish press which are outlined in the last link contained in this email.

An article published on her official company website seeks to blacken the character of Julian Assange and it contains potentially libellous and certainly incorrect statements made by James Ball, a former and disgruntled employee of Wikileaks. Despite contesting that her motives, and those of the prosecution service, are not political, Ms. Massi Fritz published a false political statement on her company´s website to the detriment of Julian Assange under the heading “Fallet Julian Assange”.

We find it objectionable at the very least that a professional versed in legal matters can try to influence public opinion against someone who has not been charged with any crime. We query whether such behaviour is legal in Sweden and whether it adheres to the ethical stipulations of the Swedish Bar Association. The following link brings up the article by Mr. Ball which she includes on her website.

There are glaring errors in the article which are prejudicial to Mr Assange. Mr Ball stresses that during a John Humphrey's interview Julian Assange initiated an assault on the characters of the two accusers, when in actual fact Assange said quite the opposite:

“It's a matter of public record as far as the courts are concerned but I'm not going to be exposing other people's lives or my own more than is absolutely necessary. That is not what a gentleman does. We don't know precisely what pressures they [the women] have been under, exactly. There are powerful interests that have incentives to promote these smears. That does not mean that they got in there at the very beginning and fabricated them.”

Ball also selectively misquoted Assange taking what Assange said in the Humphreys' interview out of context. Ball claimed Assange said: “I'm not saying it was a honey trap. I'm not saying it was not a honey trap” when what Assange actually told Humphreys came in a series of questions and answers which are reproduced here.

"Q: So you're not suggesting that this was a honey-trap? That you were
somehow set up by the Americans, by the CIA? You don't buy into that idea
because your lawyer's suggested that that's the case.

JA: He says that he was misquoted. I have never said that this is a
honey-trap.

Q: You don't believe it?

JA: I have never said that this is not a honey-trap. I'm not accusing
anyone until I have proof."

The interview in full is available in two parts here. The second part contains the above misquote starting at around 1 minute 15 seconds.

Ms. Massi Fritz has also issued two separate statements, one to the domestic and one to the international press. There are tangible differences in these separate press releases and they contradict information released to Mr. Assange´s defence team in the available police protocol.

Contained in this link are the press statements from the office of Elizabeth Massi Fritz:

http://rixstep.com/1/20130614,01.shtml

The first released statement is the one to the right, containing the information that Sofia Wilen herself reported a rape. The statement to the left is released later (June 4th) is ante-dated to May 21st and no longer claims that Sofia Wilen herself reported rape to the police.

We suspect political motives because, firstly, the government of Ecuador has repeatedly offered the use of its embassy premises in London for the Swedish prosecutor or prosecution officials to question Mr. Assange. Secondly, it is internationally known there are no known obstacles in Swedish legal procedures to prohibit questioning of a suspect abroad, because there are precedents. In April, the senior Swedish Supreme Court judge, Stefan Lindskog, delivered a public lecture at Adelaide university - Australia. He made it perfectly clear that pending legal obstacles any final decision on an extradition request by the United States government rests with the Swedish government. He also made it clear that there is absolutely no hindrance to questioning Mr. Assange in London. The Swedish prosecutor has refused to go to England to question Assange, despite the issue of questioning being the only objective of the European Arrest Warrant.

Lastly, by exclusively blaming the government of Ecuador for the legal stalemate that has arisen Ms. Massi Fritz has been unfair to Ms Wilen, as well as Mr. Assange, through deliberately protracting the case. She has published two separate statements using her position as a legal representative on behalf of her client, the named accuser mentioned above. Because she is fully aware – as well as any other informed person – that the deadlock could be broken if the Swedish prosecution service were to interview Julian Assange in London, as outlined above, or to guarantee that Mr. Assange would not be extradited to the United States. Her refusal to take either of these initiatives demonstrates that there are political motives, rather than legal representation, underlying her actions.

We respect the integrity of your office and call upon you to investigate the professional behaviour of lawyer Elisabeth Massi Fritz regarding the human rights of Mr. Julian Assange to see whether discliplinary action is appropriate under the Swedish Bar Association´s regulations.

Yours sincerely
